Florida Statute 943.0438 does not stop at fingerprinting. Your league has to screen every coach, read the result correctly, act on disqualifications, notify the person in writing, and keep the records for five years. Most providers hand you a fingerprint receipt and leave the rest to you. We do all of it.

Common questions
Florida Level 2 screening, answered
Who must be screened under Florida Statute 943.0438?
Any coach, assistant coach, manager, official, or volunteer who has direct contact with minors in a youth athletic program. This includes independent sanctioning authorities and the leagues operating under them.
What is the difference between a Level 1 and a Level 2 background check?
A Level 1 check is a name-based search of state records. A Level 2 check is fingerprint-based and searches both FDLE state records and the FBI national database. Florida Statute 943.0438 requires Level 2 for youth athletic coaches.
How long does a Level 2 background check take in Florida?
Most fingerprint results return from FDLE and the FBI within one to three business days. Results with a criminal history record take longer because they are reviewed by hand against the disqualifying offenses in section 435.04.
How long is a Level 2 background check valid?
Fingerprints are retained for five years, after which rescreening is required. Continuous Rap Back monitoring means a new arrest is flagged during that window rather than waiting for the next screening.
What happens if a coach is disqualified?
The coach receives written notice of the determination, as the statute requires. They may challenge the accuracy of the record with FDLE, or apply for an Exemption from Disqualification under section 435.07, Florida Statutes. We prepare the notice and guide both the league and the coach through the process.
Can our league see a coach's actual criminal record?
No, and that is deliberate. Florida law limits who may receive a criminal history record. Your league sees whether a coach was cleared or found not eligible. The underlying record stays with Officials Unlimited as the VECHS-authorized organization, and the coach can request their own copy at any time.

Yes. We bring LiveScan equipment to your facility, tournament, or event and screen your entire staff in a single session. This is how most of our partner leagues handle their preseason.
